School Counseling in the Classroom: Second step program
 
Elementary school counselors across the Altoona Area School District are implementing a program for all students called Second Step. This program teaches skills in the areas of: skills for learning, empathy, emotion management, and problem solving, with different focuses in each grade level.  The overall goals of the program include increasing social-emotional competence, increased self regulation, improved classroom behavior, and increased on-task behavior.
